Yoga For Cancer Patients & Survivors (Y4C)
Harford County | Baltimore County | Private
As a two-time cancer thriver, I am on a mission to share this practice with as many patients and survivors as I can. Yoga was an important part of my life before cancer, integral in helping me through treatment, and an essential part of healing and recovery. I am dedicated to teaching those who are touched by cancer about the power of this practice to:
- Support the immune system
- Boost the cardiovascular function
- Strengthen our musculoskeletal system including managing loss of bone density
- Aid in the relief of side effects from treatment (both short- and long-term)
- Help manage and reduce anxiety and stress
I am certified in the y4c (yoga4cancer) methodology, a science-based safe and supportive yoga flow that is designed for patients and survivors of all fitness levels and stages of treatment. I have adapted an approach to teaching cancer patients that combines y4c with my extensive training in the LYT method developed by physical therapist Lara Heimann. These complimentary practices are each rooted in helping students find strength from within to build a stronger foundation for overall health and wellness in body and mind. My classes are designed to allow students to adapt the practice as they need at that time.
Private y4c Sessions & Coaching:
Managing a cancer diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and a return to ‘normal’ life afterwards is a challenging, often confusing, and overwhelming experience. My goal in working with you is to help you develop a practice to get through the day-to-day and help strengthen and support you for life. No two students have the same needs or journey. Working together means building a plan that works best for you wherever you are. I offer sessions both online and/or in-person. Let’s explore what we can do for you.
y4c Classes with Johns Hopkins & UMMC:
Group classes are offered through Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake. For the most current schedule of classes, subscribe to my monthly newsletter.
Sponsor a Patient:
Current and post-treatment patients benefit greatly from the having the opportunity to work one-on-one through private sessions to develop a personalized movement plan for recovery and long-term wellness. Private sessions can be cost prohibitive, especially after the financial challenges that can come with medical expenses. Unfortunately, many insurance companies will not cover the cost of these beneficial exercise and wellness programs. Funds given through my sponsor-a-patient program will go directly to enrolling select, needs-based cancer survivors in 4-8 week private session programs to help them move well post treatment and beyond.*
