Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Your One Wild & Precious Life

TENACIOUS TUESDAY ~ As we edge closer to 2020, there has been a lot of talk of reflecting on the past decade. For me, this is also the approach to one of the biggest milestones in my life – 10 years since I faced my first cancer diagnosis and my world changed in moments. Although it was incredibly frightening, it was also transformational and lead to unforeseen opportunities for growth. Since that time, there have been many ups and downs in my health, my relationships, my career, and my sense of who I am and why I’m here. All in all, I wouldn’t trade a single one of them. Easy to say in hindsight! But certainly not how we often feel in the midst of challenges.

For me, as I think about where I want to go in the next decade, I come back to where I was at the start of the last one. I ask myself, if you knew then what was coming, what would you do differently? What are the things that are most important to you? And knowing where I have been, what are the goals and the dreams that have yet to be fulfilled? It’s so easy to say, “When the time is right, I’ll …” or “When I have enough money, I’ll …” or “When I’ve got this much experience, I’ll …” But if you think back 10 years, are there things you still keep waiting for? Why? What has really stopped you? There will always be hills to climb and barriers to get around, but what is really stopping you? What conversation do you want to be having with yourself 10 years from now as you look back at 2020?

I am the first to confess that I listen to a LOT of self-development books and podcasts. Many of them wonderful and inspiring, but ultimately, very few have led me to actually take action on making big changes. However, there is one that I recently discovered called ‘The Motivation Manifesto’ by Brendan Burchard that has made it all so clear. In it, Burchard describes the people who tend to get stuck in inaction: “These are the meek who stood to inherit the earth but never rose to claim it.” Boom. What have you worked for, fought for, laughed and cried for over these ten years but not yet claimed for yourself or for those you love?

Tell me below, what dreams will you finally claim in 2020? Say it. Own it. Make it happen! #BeTenacious
